Forum Series

Discussing and debating key industry topics

The GSMA aims to advance important new mobile technologies and applications through our Forum Series at Mobile Asia Expo, where we bring together industry players to discuss and debate important topics in dedicated sessions. The Forums are thought-leadership programmes led by our Forum Partners and moderated by industry experts.

MNO Cloud Forum

The explosion of smartphone growth, coupled with the convergence of personal computers and mobile devices is increasing the demand, by end users for increased functionality on-the-go. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) play a key role in this space by providing more robust hand-held devices at one end, and an efficient 4G network with the capability and capacity to operate their own cloud platforms on the other. Mobile cloud computing presents a significant opportunity for app development and value delivery.

MNO Cloud Forum Gold Sponsor JDSU provided a stimulating discussion on “Profit From Network Visibility: Network Testing and Monitoring For The Next Generation”.

Justin Panzer, Group Leader, Mobility Solutions Marketing at JDSU, explored "Profit From Network Visibility" and Yang Lijie, Wireless Product Business Development at JDSU, presented views on "Managing the QoS and QoE in the LTE Network".

Attendees learned how mobile service providers saw their revenue model, charging for minutes and bits, changed in recent years. They gained an understanding that the mobile service provider is now left supporting the burden of bandwidth and complex networks while the revenues associated with the services go "over the top" to new-wave service providers like Google, Groupon and Apple.

Concluding thoughts placed attention on how to create new offers that will let the carriers better monetise their networks, and how little thought is being given to making these new services as robust - and billable - as their basic services that preceded them.
Thank you for joining us for the Forum Series in 2012. We look forward to seeing you at Mobile Asia Expo in 2013.
