Mobile Asia Expo 2012: The New Mobile Era
The GSMA’s first-ever Mobile Asia Expo debuted in Shanghai to a resounding success. Senior-level industry leaders were joined by mobile ‘prosumers’ to a wealth of product showcases and announcements; learning and networking opportunities.

Exhibition
More than 200 companies showcased their goods, games and services at Mobile Asia Expo. Visiting the two exhibition halls provided glimpses of exciting new phones, technologies, applications, back-end solutions, games, accessories and more.
The expo floor was buzzing at several special zones of interest to our mobile prosumer audience, including the Angry Birds Zone, Augmented Life Zone, Mobile Fashion Zone, Mobile Gaming Zone, and the mRemote Control Zone. Attendees were able to interact with their favorite mobile games, show support for their favorite areas and play games. They even had the chance to share content with friends on social media and win great prizes, including mobile tablets.
There were even exciting learning opportunities on the show floor in the Innovation Labs, sponsored by Orange. From product demonstrations and strategy sessions to tips on how to ensure your mobile ideas succeed, the Innovation Lab provided insights and inspiration to all attendees.
Conference
An exciting lineup of speakers from mobile operators, consumer brands, investors, and industries touched by the mobile market presented at more than 20 conference sessions at Mobile Asia Expo. Conference sessions focused on current industry topics such as mobile social media, connected living, mobile cloud, Near Field Communications (NFC), mobile money, and advertising.

App Planet
App Planet, the GSMA’s programme for the mobile application ecosystem, was successfully introduced to China at an exciting app-focused exhibition, the Yahoo Developer Network Café, and App Developer Conferences hosted by BlackBerry, China Mobile and Nokia. At these App Developer Conferences, the local developer community was inspired and educated on how to build and promote apps for maximum exposure and success.
Additional learning opportunities within App Planet included the MNO Cloud Forum and the mPowered Brands Open Forum. The MNO Cloud Forum focused on increased functionality on-the-go now available through cloud services. Mobile developers had the chance to attend and learn how to capitalise on this opportunity when building their apps. At the mPowered Brands Open Forum, companies at the forefront of marketing - including Google, McCann Worldgroup and Nielsen Media” educated attendees on the latest developments in mobile marketing and advertising. The programme concluded with the announcement of the winner of the Smarter App Challenge awards, which highlighted network-friendly, smarter apps.
